About Native Crafts
Indigenous craftsmanship at the heart of our mission
Welcome to Artisanat Autochtone, an online store dedicated to traditional Indigenous crafts, handmade with passion and respect. Our mission is to pay tribute to the Indigenous cultures of Quebec and elsewhere by offering you unique creations, made by Dave Verreault-Thisselmagan, a talented Ilnu artisan who passes on his know-how and history through each piece.
Our vision: celebrating and sharing indigenous cultures
Our vision is simple: to create a bridge between indigenous communities and the world, so that ancestral traditions, stories and know-how can be shared and celebrated in their true value. As a tool for cultural transmission, our store aims to showcase the beauty and richness of indigenous cultures, while supporting artisans in their work and passion.
Our values: authenticity, respect, and fairness
Each product you find on our store is much more than just an object: it is a work of art imbued with authenticity and know-how. We believe in the importance of maintaining artisanal practices that respect traditions, values, and stories passed down from generation to generation.
The story behind indigenous crafts
Indigenous Crafts is the result of the work and passion of Dave Verreault-Thisselmagan, an Ilnu artisan, and his wife Vicky Villeneuve. Together, we decided to create a boutique that reflects our love for Indigenous cultures and our commitment to sharing this heritage with the world. For us, each piece is much more than a simple object: it is a legacy, a fragment of the soul of Indigenous peoples, that we want to share with a wider audience. Our mission is to promote this unique know-how by fostering an authentic cultural exchange.
The indigenous craftsman: the guardian of traditional knowledge
Artisans like Dave are the guardians of ancestral techniques and know-how that have been passed down to them by their ancestors. Through each necklace, each sculpture, and each weaving, these creators invite you to discover their world, their land, and their culture. Their work is not only artisanal, it is also an act of cultural transmission, love, and pride.
Our commitment to the community
Our commitment goes beyond crafts. We support Indigenous initiatives such as Puamun Meshkenu, a community walking project led by Stanley Vollant, aimed at reconnecting Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples through a process of healing and resilience. By offering a symbolic walking stick to Stanley Vollant and the walkers of the 2024 edition, we wanted to contribute, in our own way, to this beautiful human adventure. We also participate in many Pow-Wows and cultural events.
Why choose indigenous crafts
By choosing our products, you are not only acquiring an object; you are also becoming an ambassador of indigenous culture, a partner in the preservation of traditions, and a supporter of artisans.
